Commission for Children, Youth, and Christiann

The Commission for Children, Youth, and Christian Education oversees Children’s Sunday School for preschool and elementary aged children, Christian Education for middle and high school aged youth, Adult Christian Education, and Vacation Bible School.

In the area of Christian Education, we seek to study God’s teachings and strive to apply them to our daily lives. Additionally, we support this Core Value with a variety of educational, spiritual, recreational, and formative offerings designed to reach parishioners of all ages.

Episcopal Youth Community

The EYC is the gathering of middle school and senior high school students at St. James. We gather for Christian Education on Sundays at 11am in the Youth Room. We get together at other times for other special activities and projects. We are on a journey to know Christ and to make Him known. Come join us!

Youth Leaders: Phaedra Dinkins, Lisa Edwards, Kristel Jefferson, Jamie Watson, Andrea Shelton, and Lisa Otey

Sunday School

Children's Sunday School is open to all children in Kindergarten through the sixth grade. We are using Godly Play as our curriculum. Godly Play is a Montessori approach for Sunday School to communicate the sacred stories of Christian scripture. Children get to hear, experience, and respond to the stories that form the basis of our faith.

Children meet in the Library of the Middle School Building at 11am on Sundays. If you'd like to volunteer to teach, or if you would like your child to participate, please contact Karen or Jeanine.

Generation Change for Teens

St. James’ Episcopal Church Teens prepare for Generation Change

Generation Change is an entertaining, informative, media-driven youth Bible study that shows today’s students how money really works, how God views money, and how to grow into responsible young adults who are ready to embrace all of God’s blessings.
Every day our youth are bombarded with a million different voices—everything from billboards to internet ads—telling them who they are and measuring their worth by what they have. The pressure to be accepted in today’s stuff-centered world drives them, and perhaps even their parents, to throw money away on things that don’t matter—all in an attempt to “be somebody.” The result? We’re raising a generation that spends money they don’t have to buy things they don’t need to impress people they don’t even like! It’s time for a change!
Generation Change is designed for teens ages 13-18 or 7-12th graders. Generation Change is taught by Dave Ramsey via video. A typical class will look like this: You’ll begin the class with the video (10-15 minutes) then open the class up for discussion questions and Bible verses. After the discussion is over, you’ll then play the second half of the video (another 5-10 minutes) then engage in activities that apply to what the teens have learned from each session.
